Beading Workshops
In our 2010 season, I am offering workshops in off-loom bead-weaving. The workshops will cover the fundamentals & techniques of this wonderful and very creative kind of beading. As you learn each stitch and add to your knowledge, the choices become limitless.
I will be teaching each Wednesday at The Village Artisans Gallery in Port Carling during July & August. These will be full day workshops, starting at 10 am and run until 4 pm with a 1 hour break for lunch. You can bring your lunch or dine at one of the restaurants in town. Ella's Restaurant is across the street and has great daily specials & sandwiches.and a beautiful outside patio overlooking the Indian River.
These workshops will feature the basic foundation stitches and design principles which will develop into a project for your skill level. Through the flow of the workshops will be discussions about designing jewellery to fit the body and about working with colour. A description of each workshop can be found below.

Peyote Stitch & Variations The peyote stitch is one of the most important & most versatile of the foundation stitches. During the morning I will focus on teaching: flat even count peyote; flat odd count peyote (as seen in the photo); circular peyote; embellishment for peyote; increasing and decreasing. Depending upon your skill level and preference, you will work on either a flat peyote cuff or a circular peyote bangle, with or without embellishments. |
| Herringbone & Variations: Herringbone or Ndebele stitch is another versatile and important foundation stitch. We will work on flat herringbone;circular herringbone and twisted circular herringbone. Your project will be working on a either a flat herringbone or circular herringbone bracelet. |

Beaded Bezels: A great way to get a little “bling” into your beading…. We capture and surround either a crystal rivoli stone or a semi precious agate stone for this project. The stitch used is circular peyote and embellishments. |
| Toggles & Attachments: How do you finish off your jewellery and add a closure to your piece? In this workshop we will explore beaded toggles and loops and beaded buckles and how to incorporate your closure as part of your design. |

Netting & Embellishments: In this workshop you will learn flat netting that will form the base for embellishment. Your project will be working on a flat cuff that will be covered with embellishments including pearls, stones and “bead soup”….a mix of different beads. This is an exercise in colour & texture....and patience. |
